Weight Management

There is no magic pill for losing weight and keeping it off. You know it. You've heard it before. Yet millions of Americans spend billions of dollars searching for the magic bullet only to fall short of their weight loss goals or worse yet gain back every pound that was lost. The most sustainable approach to managing weight is through a healthy, nutrient-rich diet and regular exercise and movement.

At Shakthi, we're not interested in offering a weight loss program that garners short-term results. We are focused on you living the very best life in good health. Our medically supervised program is individualized and tailored to your needs.

Our Weight Loss Program

In our weight loss program we use the compounded versions of GLP1 Agonist medications called Tirzepatide. These medications have shown be very effective for weight loss, insulin resistance, and pre-diabetes. During treatment the medications are administered by subcutaneous injection on a weekly basis until the program is completed.

In addition to weekly injections, we also spend time talking about diet, stress reduction, exercise, proper sleep, and improved nutrition within the body to help encourage weight loss in a holistic manner.

What is an Integrative Medicine Approach?

Integrative medicine combines conventional medicine and alternative therapies to enhance a patient’s vitality, focusing on whole body wellness. An Integrative Medicine physician will address the root cause of your illness and not just treat the symptoms. By determining what the root is, you and your practitioner can devise a health plan to successfully treat the disease. At Shakthi, we take into account other factors in your life that may be preventing the root cause of your illness or disease from fully healing. We work closely with our patients to address their immediate health needs while developing a personalized wellness plan that encourages whole body wellness. You can learn more here.

What are the benefits of integrative medicine?

Integrative medicine’s biggest benefit is the fact it looks at the patient as a whole individual and addresses the root causes of illnesses by doing so. I went along with this though integrative medicine promotes a symbiotic and collaborative relationship between the doctor and the patient. This means that there is better communication. Another great benefit is that it utilizes every therapy possible to ensure that the patient gets the treatment that is perfect for them.

Where are you located?

Why is integrative medicine not covered by insurance?

Over the past decade or so, integrative medicine has been becoming more and more popular. Because of this popularity, there has been an increase in doctors that practice it. But even with all this popularity unfortunately insurance does not cover integrative health care. The lack of coverage from insurance companies is solely because integrative medicine often encompasses treatments that these health insurance companies degenerative treatments. Because these treatments like acupuncture, massage therapy, infrared sauna, and many others are all deemed alternative they are not covered.

What costs are involved?

We offer two options:
• Yearly Membership
• A La Carte

Why Is Weight Management So Important?

We truly believe that everybody's Wellness path is unique to them and them alone. That includes when it comes to issues having to do with your weight. Weight management is often defined solely by body mass index. But this is not an accurate determination and so we at Shakthi Health and Wellness look at other aspects in order to determine whether a weight management plan is necessary.

Being overweight is a struggle and can put a lot of stress on different processes and systems in your body. Being overweight for an extended period of time can bring with it even longer and more serious consequences. Weight management is important because not taking care of your weight can lead to major effects on your lifestyle and even your relationships- both with others and yourself.

Weight management can also help us in an integrative process when dealing with several other preexisting conditions that you're dealing with such as diabetes and chronic fatigue.

What Causes Someone to be Overweight?

Understanding the importance of weight management and not having long terminal velocity is just one aspect of the discussion that comes with weight management. Another big key factor is looking at the root cause of weight gain. There are many different reasons someone may put on weight.

Here are some of the most common:

  • The most common reason that someone begins to gain weight is by having a high-calorie intake. In other words, they are eating too much food or not eating the right foods.
  • Unfortunately, our genetics do play a role in weight gain. If there is a genetic predisposition to being overweight one may struggle with it their entire life.
  • Insulin regulates metabolism when it comes to fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. This is because it regulates glucose but if your insulin levels are high that could be one of the causes of your weight gain.
  • Our bodies produce a hormone called leptin that is intended to help regulate our appetite. If your body is producing too little leptin your body is not being told that it's being satiated and will continue to crave sustenance. Leptin resistance is a huge influence on weight gain.
  • Though the medications you're taking may be intended to help you choose, there are many that can also contribute to weight gain. Medications like antidepressants, steroids, epilepsy medication, antipsychotics, and many others all can hinder your body's ability to process things and lead to weight gain.

Ramifications of Being Overweight

Tirzepatide is one of the top weight loss injections that has garnered attention for its efficacy in weight management and metabolic health improvement. These innovative weight loss injections belong to a class of medications known as GLP-1 receptor agonists, which work by stimulating insulin production, reducing glucagon secretion, and promoting feelings of fullness to regulate blood sugar levels and aid in weight loss.

Herbal/Nutritional Supplements

There are tons of herbal and nutritional supplements out there that can be used to gently increase the success of a weight management plan. From cayenne pepper to turmeric to Jensen there are many herbal aids that you can utilize. Many of these herbs help suppress appetite or address other root causes of weight gain.

Nutrition Guidance

Maybe one of the most impactful causes of weight gain is poor eating habits. Understanding how your body works and what foods work with it is vital. In order to build a healthier lifestyle nutritional guidance can be key and is an integral part of our integrative Wellness plans when dealing with weight management. So common diet plans we often recommend to patients are

Patient Testimonials

Susan Doyle

I started by seeing Dr. Sudhir Rao for my Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) Syndrome. I had an accident in July 2010 that caused nerve damage in my ankle. After treatments and surgery, it spread up the entire left side of my body. The only way to describe how you feel is by saying you’re a human pinball machine ? you just never know where the pain is going to be that minute. I had asked about acupuncture because someone had told me that it worked for them. I was at the point of trying anything to lessen the pain because it was getting worse every day.

Anonymous Patient

I am actually a relatively healthy 50-year-old woman. I try to eat well and exercise, but I (like many) felt the creep of age in the form a subtle pounds and decreasing energy. Dr. Rao helped point me in the direction of the correct detox program for me (Core Restore!) as well as the supplements I needed to boost my metabolism and increase my energy! I still need to eat what works for me and avoid the things that don't, and I still have to exercise every day, but my clothes fit better and I have more energy!!

Anna Smoot

I came to see Dr. Rao with symptoms of chronic fatigue, abdominal pains, depression, and weight gain. I had seen a couple other doctors and they had found that I had very high inflammation levels and over 15 food allergies/sensitivities. They wanted me to just take prescription drugs, but I wanted more than a quick fix. I wanted my health and my life back! When I scheduled the appointment, I was surprised how by helpful Kelly was on the phone. I didn’t know the details of my insurance coverage and Kelly offered to call my insurance for me. I’ve never had anyone at a doctor’s office do that before.

Debbie Helman

After visiting the Shakthi website and reading other patient testimonials, I was curious about the wide variety of treatments that were available. I have a very slow metabolism, was fatigued, had insomnia, back pain, and just didn’t feel as well as I wanted to in general. I had more allergic reactions and respiratory issues in the preceding months before coming to see Dr. Jyothi Rao. I had completed three courses of prednisone while under the treatment of my traditional doctor and was fed up with that cycle and was looking for another path.

Linda J.

I was given the gift of Dr. Rao's integrative specialty care for Christmas in 2016. I didn?t take advantage of it until March of 2017. My mindset at the time was negative. I had heard about changing eating habits and I felt that I liked the foods I was eating and I was nearly 70, so why change now? After meeting with Dr. Rao and hearing her suggestions, I said I would take it one small step at a time and see what happens.

I was in the worst shape of my life

I was in the worst shape of my life with depression and anxiety. I had given up. Shakthi provided me with a manageable plan that included supplements, diet, and an exercise program that has transformed my body and given me a new outlook on life. Perhaps the most surprising outcome was learning how to be healthy and have a good relationship with my body. I am now more productive, energetic, and focused. The fog that had been clouding my thoughts has lifted.
