The Benefits Of Infrared Light for Skin Care

The Benefits Of Infrared Light for Skin Care

Many people have enjoyed a refreshing sweat from using a sauna. But did you know that saunas can also improve your skin? Infrared saunas, in particular, have been gaining popularity for their potential skin benefits.

Infrared saunas offer a unique treatment methodology that goes beyond the surface of your skin. They utilize infrared light, which can reach the deep layers of your skin, known as the dermis, where vital proteins such as collagen and elastin reside. By stimulating these proteins, infrared saunas enhance your skin's elasticity and combat signs of aging.

Shakthi Health and Wellness has been a leading provider of this state-of-the-art technology, and we're happy to answer any questions you might have about enhancing your skin's health.

What Is an Infrared Sauna?

What Is an Infrared Sauna?

An infrared sauna is a type of sauna that uses infrared light to heat the body directly, rather than heating the air, like traditional saunas. This makes it more efficient at raising your core body temperature and inducing sweating.

Infrared light has a longer wavelength compared to other types of light, making it able to penetrate deeper into the skin. This means that when you are in an infrared sauna, the heat is not just on the surface of your skin, but it reaches deeper layers as well.

As you step into an infrared sauna, you are immersing yourself in a realm of wellness that transcends traditional boundaries. Harnessing the power of infrared light, this therapeutic setting is designed to heat your body directly rather than merely warming the surrounding air.

The result? A more efficient process that elevates your core body temperature and induces sweat. But this isn't your regular sweat. It's a testament to your body's natural detoxification process, working to cleanse you from the inside out.

What makes infrared light so unique? The answer lies in its wavelength. Infrared light carries a longer wavelength compared to other types of light. This unique characteristic enables it to penetrate deeper into your skin, reaching beyond the surface to deliver warmth to even the most hidden layers.

This means that when you are basking in the gentle warmth of an infrared sauna, the heat isn't confined to the surface of your skin. It seeps into the deeper layers, stimulating your cells, improving circulation, and promoting overall health and wellness.

What Is the Infrared Sauna Process Like?

As you step into the realm of holistic skincare, let's explore together what a session in an infrared sauna entails.

Initially, you'll find yourself in a calm, serene environment as you step into the sauna. As the infrared light gently warms your body, you'll feel a deep sense of relaxation. This isn't just about heat; it's about harnessing the power of light to penetrate your skin layers and stimulate your body's natural healing processes.

Here's what you can expect during this process:

  • Warm-up phase: The infrared sauna will gradually warm up. Unlike traditional saunas, the heat will be more bearable, allowing you to comfortably stay in longer and reap more benefits.
  • Sweating phase: As your body adjusts to the heat, you will start to sweat. This is your body's natural way of expelling toxins and impurities, promoting clearer and healthier skin.
  • Cool-down phase: After your session, you'll spend some time cooling down. Hydration is crucial during this phase to replenish any fluids lost through sweating.

Remember, this path towards better skin health is a personal one. Embrace every step, knowing that you're investing in your well-being. The infrared sauna isn't a quick fix; it's part of a comprehensive approach to skincare that values long-term results over temporary solutions.

How Does an Infrared Sauna Benefit Your Skin?

Many people who might have been skeptical about the skin benefits of traditional saunas have found success with infrared saunas. By stimulating collagen and elastin production, infrared light can help tighten your skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, increased blood flow from the heat in an infrared sauna can give you a natural glow and improve overall skin tone.

Infrared saunas offer a range of potential skin benefits, including:

  • Increased Collagen Production: As we age, our bodies produce less collagen, leading to wrinkles and sagging skin. Infrared light has been shown to increase collagen production, helping to improve skin texture and elasticity.
  • Improved Circulation: The heat from an infrared sauna can cause temporary vasodilation, which is the widening of blood vessels. This increases blood flow and oxygen delivery to your skin cells, improving skin health.
  • Detoxification: Sweat is our body's natural way of eliminating toxins. Infrared saunas can help induce sweating, which can aid in removing impurities and toxins from the skin.

Infrared vs. Traditional Sauna

Saunas are an age-old health practice used by many cultures for rituals and to promote health that has transcended the test of time and continues to tout these same benefits. Saunas are traditionally humid rooms that reach temperatures of 150°F to 195°F (65°C to 90°C) and work by inducing sweating in those who use them. Some saunas use dry heat powered by a gas stove or electric heat, whereas others use hot stones and water, which produce wet heat or humidity.

Whether opting for a dry heat or steam sauna, studies have shown that saunas can benefit those with COPD, peripheral vascular disease, congestive heart failure, and rheumatoid arthritis. What's more, saunas can help with depression and anxiety. Even those looking to improve their athletic performances can benefit from the sauna.

Complementary Treatment Options at Shakthi Health & Wellness

At Shakthi Health and Wellness, your path towards holistic health is our utmost priority. You are the center of our integrative approach, where we combine traditional treatments with alternative therapies to provide a comprehensive wellness plan tailored to your needs.

To maximize the benefits of infrared sauna therapy, we complement it with other treatment options such as:

  • LED Light Therapy: In combination with infrared sauna sessions, LED light therapy enhances your body's natural healing processes and improves skin health. The power of light works hand in hand with the warmth of the sauna to rejuvenate your body from the inside out.
  • Halotherapy: Integrating halotherapy, also known as salt therapy, into your infrared sauna session can help you achieve even greater health benefits. Micro-particles of salt promote better breathing, healthier skin, sound sleep, and improved physical fitness and endurance.
  • Diet Adjustments: Nutrition is a critical aspect of your overall well-being. We provide personalized dietary advice to complement your infrared sauna sessions, ensuring your body receives the right nutrients it needs to thrive.
  • Exercise Advice: Regular physical activity is a cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle. We offer tailored exercise recommendations that support your infrared sauna therapy and contribute to maintaining your overall health.
  • Conventional Medicine Treatments: When necessary, we incorporate traditional medical treatments alongside your infrared sauna therapy. This ensures a comprehensive approach to your health, treating not just the symptoms but the root cause of your condition.

Refresh Your Skin with an Infrared Sauna at Shakthi Health & Wellness

Patient Testimonials

Susan Doyle

I started by seeing Dr. Sudhir Rao for my Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) Syndrome. I had an accident in July 2010 that caused nerve damage in my ankle. After treatments and surgery, it spread up the entire left side of my body. The only way to describe how you feel is by saying you’re a human pinball machine ? you just never know where the pain is going to be that minute. I had asked about acupuncture because someone had told me that it worked for them. I was at the point of trying anything to lessen the pain because it was getting worse every day.

Anonymous Patient

I am actually a relatively healthy 50-year-old woman. I try to eat well and exercise, but I (like many) felt the creep of age in the form a subtle pounds and decreasing energy. Dr. Rao helped point me in the direction of the correct detox program for me (Core Restore!) as well as the supplements I needed to boost my metabolism and increase my energy! I still need to eat what works for me and avoid the things that don't, and I still have to exercise every day, but my clothes fit better and I have more energy!!

Anna Smoot

I came to see Dr. Rao with symptoms of chronic fatigue, abdominal pains, depression, and weight gain. I had seen a couple other doctors and they had found that I had very high inflammation levels and over 15 food allergies/sensitivities. They wanted me to just take prescription drugs, but I wanted more than a quick fix. I wanted my health and my life back! When I scheduled the appointment, I was surprised how by helpful Kelly was on the phone. I didn’t know the details of my insurance coverage and Kelly offered to call my insurance for me. I’ve never had anyone at a doctor’s office do that before.

Debbie Helman

After visiting the Shakthi website and reading other patient testimonials, I was curious about the wide variety of treatments that were available. I have a very slow metabolism, was fatigued, had insomnia, back pain, and just didn’t feel as well as I wanted to in general. I had more allergic reactions and respiratory issues in the preceding months before coming to see Dr. Jyothi Rao. I had completed three courses of prednisone while under the treatment of my traditional doctor and was fed up with that cycle and was looking for another path.

Linda J.

I was given the gift of Dr. Rao's integrative specialty care for Christmas in 2016. I didn?t take advantage of it until March of 2017. My mindset at the time was negative. I had heard about changing eating habits and I felt that I liked the foods I was eating and I was nearly 70, so why change now? After meeting with Dr. Rao and hearing her suggestions, I said I would take it one small step at a time and see what happens.

I was in the worst shape of my life

I was in the worst shape of my life with depression and anxiety. I had given up. Shakthi provided me with a manageable plan that included supplements, diet, and an exercise program that has transformed my body and given me a new outlook on life. Perhaps the most surprising outcome was learning how to be healthy and have a good relationship with my body. I am now more productive, energetic, and focused. The fog that had been clouding my thoughts has lifted.

The injection encourages the body to make red blood cells, improving oxygen circulation throughout the body. Vitamin B12 encourages your body to use carbohydrates and fat for the creation of energy and additional protein the body needs.

• Acupuncture

The treatment consists of fine needles being inserted into the skin, at varying depths. The placement of the needles, or acupoints, stimulate specific regions to produce specific physical responses. The thought is that physical stimulation will promote self-healing and bodily wellness.

Once placed into the skin, the patient may feel a dull ache at the base of the needle. But acupuncture should never be painful. The dull ache will gently subside, leaving the individual in a relaxed state. In some practices, the steel needle may even be heated or stimulated as part of the treatment approach.
