Surviving the Holidays

Moderation and Detox are the Keys to Your Success

As we celebrate the holiday season, it’s important to think about what we are putting into our bodies and what we truly need to fuel ourselves. Hint: it is certainly not the overabundance of cakes, cookies, candies, and alcoholic beverages that are often all too available and tempting at holiday parties and events.

At Shakthi, we work with many of our patients during the holiday season and throughout the year on controlling cravings and practicing moderation. In fact, for many people, the holidays can be very stressful. Studies have shown that increased stress drives many of our bad food cravings (think sugar!). Here are a few tips to maintain self-control and stay on track with healthy eating during the holiday season to avoid weight gain:

  • Bring your own healthy dish to a potluck. Check out some of these favorite healthy dishes cooked up in Shakthi’s very own kitchen.
  • Eat a healthy snack or small meal before you go to a party so you don’t arrive hungry and nibble on junk or unhealthy treats.
  • Limit alcohol intake to one or two servings and drink water in between cocktails to stay hydrated.
  • Exercise to balance out the increase in calories taken in throughout the month.
  • Detox before the holidays to feel and look your best.

Detox To Help Feel Your Best This Season

Detoxifying the body of toxins is an important step people can take to maintain healthy eating habits and overall wellness during the holiday season. Shakthi’s physician-supervised detox program can limit the damage of eating too much of the wrong foods. In fact, detoxing right before the holidays, which helps to flush out the body of toxins, can decrease sugar cravings, improve the look and glow of skin, reduce inflammation, improve energy, and reduce fatigue.

After the holiday season, when all of the parties are over and the sugary treats are gone, following Shakthi’s six-week detox regimen will eliminate toxins from the body caused by eating too much sugar and not enough nutrient-rich foods. Detoxing also helps to eliminate environmental toxins that build up in the body over time from consuming meats with added hormones, for example, or from heavy metals in cans and chemicals in plastic containers that store food.

You can survive the holidays and all the food choices that come along with the season. Shakthi’s supervised detox system will restore gut health and reduce inflammation in the body before and after the holidays and put you back in control over your own good health!
