Surviving the Holidays

Moderation and Detox are the Keys to Your Success

As we celebrate the holiday season, it’s important to think about what we are putting into our bodies and what we truly need to fuel ourselves. Hint: it is certainly not the overabundance of cakes, cookies, candies, and alcoholic beverages that are often all too available and tempting at holiday parties and events.

At Shakthi, we work with many of our patients during the holiday season and throughout the year on controlling cravings and practicing moderation. In fact, for many people, the holidays can be very stressful. Studies have shown that increased stress drives many of our bad food cravings (think sugar!). Here are a few tips to maintain self-control and stay on track with healthy eating during the holiday season to avoid weight gain:

  • Bring your own healthy dish to a potluck. Check out some of these favorite healthy dishes cooked up in Shakthi’s very own kitchen.
  • Eat a healthy snack or small meal before you go to a party so you don’t arrive hungry and nibble on junk or unhealthy treats.
  • Limit alcohol intake to one or two servings and drink water in between cocktails to stay hydrated.
  • Exercise to balance out the increase in calories taken in throughout the month.
  • Detox before the holidays to feel and look your best.

Detox To Help Feel Your Best This Season

Detoxifying the body of toxins is an important step people can take to maintain healthy eating habits and overall wellness during the holiday season.
