How to Survive Flu Season This Year

Follow These Six Steps To Fight Off The Flu And Stay Healthy This Winter!

  1. Wash your hands
Flu viruses are spread by infected people when they sneeze, blow their nose, or cough. During flu season, everyone should be encouraged to keep their hands away from their mouths and wash multiple times a day to stay healthy.
  2. Eat a healthy diet that’s rich with vitamins
Vitamins E and C are especially good for fighting the flu and sickness. They boost your immune system and keep your body strong against infections. Foods that are rich in vitamin E include sunflower and corn oils, sunflower seeds, and nuts such as almonds and peanuts. You can get plenty of vitamin C from foods like orange juice, other citrus fruits, broccoli, and green peppers.
  3. Sleep is your friend
Lack of sleep has a huge effect on your immune system, so make sure you’re getting a full night’s rest. And when you’re sick, sleep is one of the best ways to fight it off.
  4. Stay hydrated
Just because it isn’t summer, doesn’t mean staying hydrated isn’t important. When you’re feeling sick, drinking extra fluids prevents dehydration caused by fever, loosens mucus, and keeps your throat moist.
  5. Exercise regularly
Research indicates that exercise can stimulate the immune system and promote healthy sleep, which are two of the best ways to fight the flue. When in doubt, exercise is always one of the key ways to keep your body healthy.
  6. Stay home and take it easy
If you do come down with a cold or flu, you need to prioritize rest. Using too much energy in your day to day activities takes valuable resources from the immune system. Normal activities may be too much, and that’s okay. Staying at home and resting is not only the best way to fight sickness for yourself, but it’s also important in preventing other people from getting sick.
