Food Sensitivities

70% of our immune system is in our gut.

Research shows 60% of the US population suffers from food allergies. The top allergenic foods are eggs, dairy, corn, peanuts, shell fish, soy products, tree nuts and wheat. Allergies which appear as reactions can occur immediately after eating to several hours after the meal. Reactions can range from mild symptoms to life threatening anaphylactic shock.

Some examples of non-life threatening symptoms for food sensitivities can present like a headache, generalized fatigue, congestion, mood alterations and pain. These symptoms can start hours to days after an exposure which makes them very difficult to identify. Symptoms are related to the presence of inflammation which can cause increases in pain, gastrointestinal distress, anxiety, spacey feeling and many other vague symptoms. The best way to identify food allergens are through an elimination diet or food sensitivity test. Talk to your provider for more information.
